How to 'survive' college

Ok so I got a letter today from my college with all the details about going into second year on it and how to go about enrolling, both if I've passed my exams or failed them - I'm taking key note of the last one because tbh that's the one I'm most probably going to need.
Anyhow, I was inspired by this cheeky bit of post to do a kind of college survival guide so here we go

Don't get tied up in the stationary madness
I don't know if it's just me in this boat but I actually LOVE buying new stationary and getting in early on those end of school sales when the old stationary vacates the shelves ready for the new and at least 50% more expensive stuff. However, all those fancy new highlighters and novelty animal rubbers don't really come to play in college I mean I'm pretty sure the majority of my new buys are still in my stationary drawer as honestly, I managed to get by half the time with a semi-functioning pen so there's not really any point getting all the goods (even if they are reduced by like loads) it's just a waste of money really which could be used on better things eg. Mid lesson snacks

Cue cards are not substantial revision
Learn from my mistakes!! They may seem and feel like revision because you spend so long making them but just making them doesn't class as substantial revision at all and If you are going to make them, actually read them. Now you might be thinking 'hey who makes revsion goods if they're not going to use them' but that was lit me #noshame and it will probably be you when it comes down to it like no joke my motivation level  to revise was so low an ant could have climbed over it

College relationships aren't worth it
Now you're going to get to college and realise that it's like a completely new ball game and there are cuties like left right and centre whereas you were lucky if there were about 4 in your highschool but honestly, I wouldn't bother entering a relationship with them because alrhough they're cute, it will probably end up really awkward and make the remainder of your college life that bit more uncomfortable. Par Example, I ended up going out with this guy in my sociology class and it was an actual train wreck, we ended up breaking up and then all our friends ended up getting involved and now it's super duper awkward cause like everyone is hating on each other. So it's only two years, you can probs last and maintain yourselves long enough to not feel the need to gather a partner and what not

Don't take yourself too seriously
Literally, no one cares at all what you look like at college or even what you act like I mean there's so many people there and you'll be so preoccupied you won't notice what's going on around you, so others won't really. If you're planning on full on slumming it down id perhaps wait a couple of weeks I mean that's what I did but each to their own I guess. Also, if you are one of the 'cool kids' in highschool don't go parading about your classes like the Queen of Sheba like no one really judges but if you're acting pretty extra they will.

Try not to make too many enemies (if any)
I don't really know how it happened but during my time in college I managed to somehow make sort of enemines with people and I know that sounds sad but that's the best way I can describe it. It was like we both had a mutual hatred for eachother but that hatred was actually misplaced and a side effect of getting involved with other people's drama. I can't even think why half of us even disliked eachother I mean it was completely unjustified but if any of us did something the others called us out for it and to make your college life simpler, try to prevent this from happening to you

Invest in some stress relief goods or potions
If you haven't already established, college is so stressful like everything seemed hunky dirty at the beginning and it will feel okay when you're there living in the moment but when you look back you realise just how much hard work and stress it was and so it's my advice to you to get something which can soothe or release the stress as it builds up otherwise it would more likely just build up and that will get you nowhere but the collehe counseller. I can speak from experience here too because one day everything got too much and I was so overwhelmed and emotional I ended up crying for nearly the whole day and then got referred to the school counsel lady because of my poor handling skills

So there we go then, my advice for college. It's not quite Ned's declassified school survival guide but it will do

What happens after death??

it is 1 am in the morning when I'm wrong this (7pm when it posts)  and I cannot get to sleep at all like my mind won't switch off no matter how much I'm willing it to. It seems to be switching more on if I'm honest like I've came up with so many good analogies So far and now I have came up with my theory on life after death which I thought I would share with y'all.

Okay so,  I've been thinking and I think super clever and super talented people are proof that when we die our souls go into new babies because like our old life experience gets channeled through our reborn souls to them and then they get reborn into someone else eg. Picasso and it looks like they're really talented when actually it's been years and years of experience before he was alive. And like when people are well clumsy and dipsy it's because they have a new soul that isn't very used to to the world so doesn't really know what it's doing

That's my new view on the matter anyway, I didn't really have one beofre I just thought when we died we'd just stay chilling in our graves, same old same old but this makes quite the but if sense to me I feel it could be my new mantra.

IronBoardBitch

I said I'd explain my name change so here it is.
Basically a few months ago I was going out with this guy but after like 2 months we broke up (yeh I know, good one Beth that lasted a long time) so I thought hey it would be nice to be able to stay friends and what not so I offered an olive branch of friendship to him and because the tree was pretty chunky I offered olive branches to all of his friends too.

This seemed to lead to a multiple of issues and problems because eveyone rejected my branches except for one of his friends who I got along with really well anyway. So anyway, this lead to a really mean exchange in which my ex, let's just call him Luke, decided to call me a multitude of names and crude adjectives, one of which was an 'iron board bitch'

Instead of taking this to heart, I decided to absorb said name and make it become a part of who I am, as I guess it is a part of who I am so what I'm trying to say is don't take all the insults to heart and what not because to be honest, most of them will be true in some form so just absorb and accept instead of taking offence and making yourslef feel worse

So there we go, but of advice there from your local ironboardbitch

Primary School Blues

So because I know now that I have (most probably) failed my AS levels or only just scraped a pass, I am trying to make this summer as full as possible with things that will make me look good and enhance my CV so I decided to volunteer at a primary school.

Now, I'm not going to lie, when I first started I thought it was going to be all easy and simple like I was put in year2 so they're only young so in my eyes, weren't up to doing much work but at the same time weren't up to being rebellious but boy was I wrong.

Literally on my first day this boy decided to introduce himself via the 'bogey game' in which you pick your nose and wipe the bogeys you've dug out the cave into someone and see how long it takes them to realise. I'm sorry to say it took me a long time to notice and it was from then onwards I realsied things weren't going to be as easy as they seemed.

Reading, which y'all know I love doing, was such a chore it was painful. This wasn't the case for everyone but the ones who it did include made my day go about ten times slower. For example, I was trying (emphasis on trying) to read with this one girl and she'd just go about gruessing what word came next based on what letter the word started with. At one point she needed to read the word 'tree' a simple and groovy word that is no hassle at all but oh no, does she try to read it properly and sound it out? Nope. She goes and guesses the words 'there' , 'that' , 'they' and 'then' because they also start with a t before she then decided to read properly how she had been taught. This however wasn't a one off, this was on like every word.

One of the things I think I'll  miss the most however is their lack of common sense and their low levels of humour because honestly, I don't think I've seen anything like it. One of the boys was telling me how he went to his friends house and that his friend is really rich and one of the girls sitting by piped up asking if it was because his mum won the jackpot at bingo. Now, I don't know if this was a had to be there moment but it was just so funny because she didn't think that the mum could have a good job or anything like that, just she won the bingo.
Another thing was when the teacher asked the year 2s if they knew what the word 'pure' meant and one of them started declaring it was horse poo because he got mixed up phonetically with the word 'manure' which tbh is a real contrast with the word pure

To be honest, I've actually really enjoyed myself and will be sad to leave them when they break up summer but I don't know if it's enhanced my idea of becoming a teacher or not. I don't know if I could cope with that chaos full time

A new look!!

I'm not going to like I was getting pretty fed up of the old lay out of this blog, like 2014 me thought it looked good and obviously, 2014 me was deluded.
As you probably have noticed the background is now a line drawing of what can only be described as a forest of woods and there is also a border seperating my name from the background which I only recently discovered was a thing?!
Another thing you've probably notcied about said border is the name change on it. Now I know it has a naughty word on it but I feel like zelovelybeff was very outdated and there is a story behind this name which will be posting sometimes this week and then hopefully it will all make sense :)
Seeing as you're reading this post you've probably noticed a change in the posts themselves, I've gone for a cheeky font change and also have a slight blue background to it to go with my theme.
So here we are, new year new me and all that (even though it's past like halfway through the year), let's all just be thankful I got rid of that awful logo I had going on.
It can only go up from here folks

(Until I most probably forget about the whole blog once Summer is over)
Also don't get used to this weekend post, It's a one time wonder

Cold sores make warm bores

So basically, I have discovered that cold sores are not winter exclusive, even though first part of the name is COLD as one has decided to sprout on my face, right in the middle of summer.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying colds sores are convenient I mean the name themselves is a hassle to pronounce I mean have I got a cold sore on my mouth or a stray bit of coleslaw that I may have been saving for later, who knows? But this mini mountain of mine has literally came at the worst time possible I mean it has been like 33 degrees outside and all my friends are having fun in the sun but England being England can't seem to have a day without rain even though it is SO HOT.

See here's the thing, I think anyone who has had one of these blighters before know that they love moist envirmonemts and hot weather with the hint of rain makes way for a load of moisture so I either have the option of adventuring into the great outdoors and letting K2 (the worlds second highest mountain) turn into Everest OR just remain inside like a little hermit whilst praying to the face obscurity gods that this thing heels up.  Obviously I chose the latter.

These gods seem to seize to exist thought because this thing on my face seems to have been camping here now for nearly a week!! Despite my home remedies trying to get it to vacate the premises it has stayed firmly there, like an overly persistent squatter.
Maybe this is a lesson to be learned, don't try and do your own DIY remedies from Google and just go to the doctors and get some of the proper stuff. It might take longer but at least it's definitely efficient.

Central Intelligence (Movie Review)

I went to go and see this film like a week ago and I'm not going to lie, half the time I didn't really get what was going on and I don't know if it was just me thinking about the plot too much I was making myself confused or if it was a but hard to follow and if so, if it was done like that on purpose.

I can't complain too much though like it had Kevin Hart in it and I actually love him as an actor like he's so good at what he does and so funny he made the film. Dwayne (the Rock) Johnson was in it too and I quite like him I guess but I decided as I was watching the film that he's got to the point where he is a bit too muscular for my likings like his arm veins were literally popping and they were just so big, I think it was a little too much

Can we just take a moment however to appreciate that I guessed the plot twist like go me, maybe though I was overthinking everything and that's why I ended up so confused but in all honestly it felt like it was going round in circles for the majority of it (much like this review).

Overall as a comedy it was good like there were a lot of funny parts and I liked how they showed some of the bloopers at the end like that was cute but I don't see how it got such a high percentage on rotten tomatoes.

We love that animal/human morality

I forgot to post and I have literally no shame so here I am backdating it so it looks like it was posted when it was meant to be. I'm not going to lie tho all this writing really takes it out of you and I have had other stuff to do such as part of an EPQ for college.

This basically means that I have to prepare for a piece of work that will then count as an A level I think it is, could be an As and we get to choose whatever subject we want to do, even if it has nothing to do with our current college courses.
Me being me and deciding to make it hard for myself chose to do about humans morality towards humans opposing their morals towards animals. This basically entails why humans think it is acceptable to behave one way towards animals and another towards humans and the line at which they are established as different.
Fun stuff ye.

To do this I started out with some polls and have emailed Lush and various other companies about animal testing and things along that line in order to get some good sources for my research. I'm praying that this is like the majority of the work needs to be done but honestly it was a lot gathering all the facts for what I was saying a=so it was supported and what not because I have no idea how I am going to cope doing an EPQ and 4 A levels as well.

Tidying Room Probz

You see, I personally have a great struggle when it comes to doing things like tidying my room because I end up in this vicious cycle that repeats itself over and over and over again.

It starts off with a really really high level of motivation so like I end up emptying all my drawers and wardrobe and pile it all over my bed and then decide to sort through it all and arrange it into my drawers better and what not but then somewhere along the line things go wrong and before you know it you see that one thing that you haven't seen in like years and that's it you're hooked. I often find that this is my DS because I somehow forget it exists until I start to tidy.

Then because all my energy has been exhausted through some intensive mario kart playing I really can't be bothered tidying my room up - which is messier than it started off as by this point and then I ended up starting with what I like to call the 'floor/ceiling exchange' which is basically when you put all the stuff that was on the bed into piles on the floor, and then you take them piles and put them on the bed and this basically just repeats for about half an hour and in that time literally nothing gets done.

By the end of that whole exchange I've had enough of the tidying nonsense so end up leaving things in piles on the floor or shoving said piles into the wardrobe regardless of what they are. One thing I have also realised is that it is more or less guaranteed that there will be a spillage of some description I mean, did you really clean your room if you didn't spill something all over in the process? I tend to find it's the nail varnish remover like I don't know how it always seems to end up with its lid off on the floor but somehow it does and bam it's all over the floor and my room has a scent so strong it could be mistaken for one of those nail places.

6 Things I really Dislike

Tbh there isn't really a need for an introduction like I'm pretty sure the title says what it is in the can so here we go

  1. Rollercoasters
I literally can not cop rollercoasters like at all, themy make my stomache churn and I end up super dizzy. One time when I went to America with my highschool we went to a theme park and all of my friends tricked me into thinking that this log flume (Jarassic Park) was meant for like babies and that there would be no dips or anything. However, as anyone who has been on it before will know, it has a backwards dip and a really big drop at the end and no jokes I was so sick it was grim.
  2. Dark Environments (for a long duration)
I wouldn't say that I fear the dark like I'm not scared of it I just have a strong disliking for it. For example, I don't like sleeping with no lights at all but if I open my curtains than that gives me enough light to be happy (even though it's dark out). I do however, if it is too dark out to make a difference have like 7 pairs of fairylights draped around my room and also have glow in the dark stars on one of my walls which do actually provide a fair amount of light. If I am in a dark area for a long time it just feels a bit like I'm suffocating and that I'm being squashed by the nothingness.
  3. Sick
I know it is literally just a bodily function and everyone gets sick and so everyone is sick at somepoint in their lives but I actually hate it and it's not even the sick itself but the process to it. Like the retching noise just really gets to me and it makes me feel physically sick myself if I hear it - same with like proper loud and hearty burps they make me all queasy too. Not only is there the noise though but the actual sight of it like what even is sick why is it always such an awfully peachy colour?
  4. Sniffy Dogs
Okay so don't hate me for this one but I used to dislike all dogs in general (I'm defo a cat person) so I think I have done really quite well to narrow it down to just the sniffy kind. I don't know what it is but I just feel really uncomfortable when they're there sniffing me and like especially when I have food cause it just intensifies like fam no it's mine
  5. Confrontation
Being confronted myself doesn't really get to me like I can handle myself, I am a generally salty person too so I can come back with some top notch words but watching confrontation happen makes me feel uneasy and I don't know if it's because like I can't help or anything but I just really don't like it.
  6. Being told what to do
I could have the most motivation in the world to do a job or do something like be active but as soon as someone tells me to do that thing all the motivation seeps out of me. A prime example of this is tidying my room like I could be mid-way through it on a proper roll and then all it takes is for my mum to send me a message like 'hey dont forget to tidy your room lol x x x' and then bam, there is no motivation left and it will probably be like another 5 days beofre I want to tidy again.

The Secret Place (Book Review)

So I was wondering what I could do seeing as I am already running out and I thought hey why not bless everyone with a book review? I love reading so it makes sense just to make the most of it if you get me?
So this book is like my 3rd favourite book but I actually no longer own a copy (I will probably explain why in a later (and salty) post) but I would encourage you all to read it, the way that Tana has layed it all out is actually genius.
Ps. I'm going to try my best not to give any spoilers so you might only understand some of the things I'm trying to say in this review after you have read the book.

One of the main things that I like about the book is how the different chapters alternate between different people's points of view so you're not just stuck with one character's account which in a book like this I think can get a bit boring.

I've just realized that I haven't even like said what this book is about or even what style of writing it is. So basically the book is about how a male body has been found at an all girls school and that somebody at  the girls school left a note on the 'secret place' ( hence the title) saying that they know who had committed the murder. This leaves the detective to not only find out who killed the boy but also who posted the note so they could get more clues for the case. It sounds like your stereotypical who did it kind of book but when you get deeper into the book it gets more interesting and like the ending is so good and such a twist but not a twist at the same time because when you find out who it was that killed he boy it all makes sense makes it really special (I think it does anyway)
Like I said before what makes it really good is how the chapters alternate between characters because not only do you get to know the character more but you can also see how they are reacting to everything to help try and figure out who put the note on the art board and also who committed the crime.
Literally one of the best books I have ever read

Half a stone later

So last Tuesday (literally two days ago) in my TMI tag I referred to how I put on half a stone in 5 days so I thought that I would bless you all with the story of how all that weight came to me.

It all started because I was doing a Summer Residential School at Lancaster University because as you all know, I am 17 so have finished my first year at college which means that it is now time to start looking at unis I want to attend when my final year at Newman is over and what better way to do this than go and stay over at the unis and have a taste of the course you're looking to study?

Anyhow, they offered a cook breakfast like every morning and then they had loads of other breakfast foods like cold meats, cereal, fruit and pastry so I was like literally buzzing - usually I don't eat breakfast but I changed my ideals for this special occasion. So, as you do I made the most of it all so every morning I had cooked breakfast (2 sausage, 2 bacon, 2 hash browns, beans, tomato, a fried egg and a piece of toast) and at least two pieces of fruit - usually an apple an banana. There was however one day where I didn't really like the tea so hadn't ate much the night before so was still hungry in the morning from that so got myself a bowl of cereal too. This obviously had quite the effect on my weight.

After breakfast we went to lessons and workshops so I went to sociology themed ones and as we were looking at sociology of the future we were looking into Brexit and how the different outcomes that may happen would sociologically effect our futures. I'm not going to lie, this all got very heated and at multiple points this one girl left the classroom or library in an angry manner slamming the doors as she left (she also shared some very vulgar and rude words as she left). As you can tell, that was all very traumatic and the only thing that helps sooth a trauma is a good old snack so I usually had a breakfast bar or more fruit after the first lesson and midway through the second.

Then of course there was dinner because all that hard work we had been doing really worked up an appetite and let me tell you something, the dinners there are honestly 10/10 and there was always a cake of some sort for afters.
I'm not really going to go on much more bore you with more details because I'm quite cautious that this is becoming a real long post but after dinner came more lessons or activities and so more snacks and after  that came tea which then lead to more cake. We did activities after tea but non eo fthem really helped burn off the days worth of eating like the most exercise I did over those 5 days was like an hour of tennis and even after that I had a snack so go figure.

There you have it then folks, how I put on half a stone in 5 days
